The Bountiful City Council voted unanimously on May 12 to adopt Ordinance 2026‑04, continuing temporary fireworks restrictions in specified high‑risk zones and establishing seasonal dates for the ban.
City Attorney Brad Jeepson outlined the legal basis under state law for restricting fireworks in discrete parts of the city. He described the mapped areas as east of 400 East from Pages Lane to 500 South, and east of Orchard Drive from 500 South to the North Salt Lake border, and said staff provided a map in the packet. The ordinance applies only during defined windows: July 2–5 and July 22–25; staff included an expiration date in late December to cover the winter period as needed.
Interim Fire Chief Jeff Larson, responding to council questions about fire risk, said conditions this season are dry and officials are “planning for worst case scenario” and emphasized coordination with neighboring jurisdictions on signage and public messaging. Streets staff noted that temporary signage is posted at city limits during the restricted periods and then removed afterward to avoid implying a permanent ban.
The council approved the ordinance unanimously and asked staff to coordinate maps and signage so residents understand the temporal and geographic limits of the restriction.
