Ann Arbor commission to rotate members on selection panels; DDA report, Dumbar installations and local events planned

Staff said the process would be logistical: when an inquiry comes in the staff contact will go down a roster and ask commissioners in order; if a commissioner cannot attend, staff will approach the next name on the list. Commissioners noted that serving on juries typically requires an estimated 5–15 hours and that conflicts of interest should be avoided.
The commission also previewed a pilot quarterly public-art report developed with the Downtown Development Authority. Staff said the pilot would appear at the commission's June 3 meeting as a slide-based presentation summarizing active projects across the city and giving commissioners an opportunity to request additional detail from project managers.
On installations, commissioners reported that art work at Dumbar Tower is being installed and that much of the work is interior or under the parking garage, limiting public sightlines. Commissioners encouraged collecting progress photos and promoting installations on social channels as pieces go up.
Communications lead Jamal reported modest social-media growth: "We're cooking. We're up to, I think, a whopping 82 followers on Instagram," and commissioners discussed producing short videos and image posts to increase community reach.
Commissioner Marionetta announced her solo exhibition opens June 4 at the Stamps Gallery on Division Street and will be on view through July 25; commissioners discussed using the June meeting to remind each other of upcoming events and the commision's role in promoting public-art activity.
The commission confirmed its next meeting for June 3, said it will not meet in July, and will reconvene in August; the meeting adjourned at about 7:53 p.m.
