Council approves specialty hemp retailer, restaurant liquor license and routine contracts

Fairhope City Council approved a set of licensing and procurement items during its meeting, including retail and alcohol licenses and contract extensions.

The council approved an application from Ramp Enterprises (doing business as Cottage Hill Package by the Bay) for a specialty retailer of consumable hemp products at 9869 State Highway 104 after confirming the correct address and that licensing/inspection checks were satisfied. Later in the agenda, the council also approved a restaurant liquor license for Supper Club at Sweetwater Branch.

Council accepted a donated painting by Bob Carrick (valued at $2,500), appointed Scott West to the pedestrian‑bicycle committee and approved several contract actions: a three‑year engagement with DC Strategy Group LLC (retainer $8,500/month), extension of disaster debris removal and monitoring contracts, an amendment to the annual tree‑removal contract, waterline relocation and well‑repair awards, sole‑source procurement for an absorber system for the Twin Beach lift station, and other routine procurement items. Each item passed by voice vote as presented.

Public safety and licensing staff confirmed there were no outstanding objections to the hemp or liquor license applications; a member of the public raised neighborhood concerns about placement of a package/liquor use during the public hearing earlier in the meeting.

What’s next: Licensed businesses may proceed once final licensing paperwork is completed; staff will implement awarded contracts and manage scheduled projects.
