Fire Chief Graham described the procurement: the city has an opportunity to buy a demo-model ambulance coming off the production line, which he said will be brand new with warranty and save an estimated $48,000 versus a fully custom build. The ambulance cost discussed was $308,225 and outfitting and equipment was estimated at $186,000, for a total request of $494,255.
Assistant City Manager John Trilch told the council that residual IGSA revenue from the city’s intergovernmental support agreements with Fort Carson is sufficient to pay the full cost. "This is not local taxpayer money," Trilch said. "This is revenue that was generated through our fantastic partnership we have with Fort Carson...right now, ready to facilitate a purchase like this." He recommended approval, noting the funding would have zero impact on the general fund.
Council discussed delivery timing, warranty and how the unit would be used before Station 4 is placed in service; Chief Graham said the intent is to put the unit into active service so it is exercised under warranty and available as needed. The council approved the resolution by voice vote (7 yes).
What happens next: Staff will finalize procurement and equipment outfitting and schedule delivery; the city plans to acknowledge Fort Carson’s partnership on the unit subject to appropriate approvals for any logos or recognition.
