Blue Earth County awards several public‑works contracts and accepts MDOT grants for Mano reconstruction

Blue Earth County’s public‑works department reported multiple contract awards and grant acceptances at the May 12 board meeting, approving routine maintenance contracts and advancing a major reconstruction project in Mano.
Staff recommended award of three maintenance contracts: the 2026 striping contract to Camco Incorporated (lowest responsive bidder), the asphalt emulsion contract including the CRS2P alternate to HG Migs, and a gravel hauling contract to Max Johnson Trucking for $264,000. Commissioners approved all three awards.
For state aid project 00760521 — the 53rd Avenue reconstruction from Riverfront Drive to Cleveland Street in Mano — staff presented a low bid from Holtmire Construction that was roughly 6.8% under the engineer’s estimate; the board approved awarding that contract and noted some cost shifts to the city for utility work.
Staff also presented MDOT agreement number 1062917, which will provide 50% of the cost of a box culvert/bridge (about $144,438.88) for the 53rd Avenue project, and MDOT LRIP agreement 1062965, a competitive grant award of $1.5 million for eligible road costs on the Cass/3rd Avenue reconstruction project; the board approved the MDOT agreements and associated resolutions.
Staff additionally recommended and the board approved final contract payment for the County Road 139 bridge replacement. Commissioners discussed traffic and coordination issues related to ongoing projects and construction schedules.
Public Works said construction sequencing, utility relocations and coordination with the city are ongoing and that several projects are scheduled for mid‑June paving and summer completion.
