The board moved, seconded and voted 5-0 to give a favorable recommendation to purchase two vending machines — one for each station — described in the meeting materials as “exceeding $10,000, not to exceed $32,699.82.” The presenter said the machines include integrated inventory software and would be paid from the department’s current EMS capital line, so no special additional appropriations were requested for the vending purchase.
The board discussed how the machines would be used. The department’s chief said the devices would store non-controlled supplies such as bandages and other routine items and “it essentially allow us a better system for tracking our EMS supplies both in and out,” adding that narcotics and controlled drugs are handled in a separate system. Board members asked for confirmation about specific items such as Narcan and were told the chief would verify those details.
Members also queried the recurring costs. The presenter confirmed the quote included a one-year software license and said the machines would be owned by the department (not vendor-stocked), and the board expects to remove an excessive preventive-maintenance line item from the initial quote before final purchase.
Separately, the board voted 5-0 to forward a favorable recommendation to the council for an additional appropriation from excess local revenue into the capital line to pay for a previously approved fire engine when it is delivered (the presenter said delivery is expected roughly within a month).
On routine business the board approved the meeting agenda and the March and April minutes, and it amended the April minutes to remove one member from the attendance record because he was out of the country. All of those procedural motions passed by voice vote, recorded as 5-0.
The board’s recommendations will be considered by the Town Council at their upcoming meeting; the board did not take final purchasing or appropriation actions itself.
