Several public commenters used the commission’s public‑comment period to raise safety and neighborhood‑quality concerns ahead of the speed‑survey discussion.
Eloise Shih told commissioners she opposes the planned MST move to the train station, saying concentrating many buses at a single opening will create dangerous traffic interactions and put seniors who live across the street at risk. "That is just throwing the seniors literally under the bus," she said, and urged residents to file public comments by June 2 opposing the move.
Peter Zlai described the Alvin Overpass vacant land as an inappropriate location for construction‑and‑demolition debris storage, saying the site is an eyesore with open gates that invite opportunistic dumping. He asked the commission for support in banning that use and suggested alternative neighborhood uses such as a dog park or green space.
Other residents, including Yolanda Hayes, raised speeding concerns on local streets (notably Laurel and Natividad, Little River and routes near schools), urged more striping and flashing advisory signs at curves, and asked the commission to press for enforcement near schools and parks. Commissioners and staff acknowledged the concerns, noted limits imposed by survey procedures and MUTCD rules, and agreed to document public comments and pursue follow up (including asking the police traffic unit to consider targeted monitoring at hot spots).
