Central Middle School spotlights community‑building; students and staff recognized at Wayzata board meeting

Marian Boyd said the building’s vision — summarized as "every student, every opportunity, every day" — guided programming and a student‑experience goal tied to survey results and growth targets. Associate principals and staff described advisory activities, a student‑staff basketball game, a schoolwide scavenger game called “Where is Timmy?” and extracurriculars such as theater, ceramics and athletics that staff say strengthened student engagement. Seventh‑grader Carson Paul described finding Timmy and how the activity drew students across grades together. "It's been fun to look for him, but it's been really challenging," Carson said.
The board also recognized student accomplishments: Rachel Lynn, the student council vice president, reviewed districtwide student events and fundraisers; Cassidy Nebadrich was honored as the state storytelling champion, and art students received Scholastic Art Awards at state and national levels. Sarah Paul, a building substitute at Central, was named May employee of the month for stepping into classroom roles and supporting students; she thanked colleagues and noted her path from substitute to a full‑time building role.
Superintendent Chase Anderson read a list of staff who indicated intent to retire, and board members offered thanks for long service. Board members praised the Central Middle School presentation and asked staff to return with continued updates on the school's student‑experience metrics and events.
The board received the spotlight and recognitions with applause and no formal action required. The district plans to share some student videos with communications prior to wider publication, pending approval.
