Manatee County previews Class of 2026: six nights of graduations, three service‑academy appointments

The Manatee County School District on May 12 previewed its Class of 2026 as graduation week approaches.

Deputy Superintendent Derek Jensen and Director of Assessment Evan McCarthy told the board graduations start next week and will take place across six nights, with two ceremonies scheduled for the final Saturday to accommodate large cohort sizes. The district projects more than 3,300 graduates and estimated nearly 30,000 handshakes across ceremonies as families and staff congratulate seniors.

McCarthy shared demographic and achievement highlights: 54% of seniors began kindergarten in the district (a cohort continuity metric), students report 44 different home languages, and the senior class has earned more than $8 million so far in Bright Futures scholarship awards (figures are preliminary and the senior survey is not yet complete). The district also reported 277 early graduates and three service‑academy appointments: one each to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (presentation noted each appointment came from a different high school; staff will confirm the specific schools after final checks).
