Commissioners proclaim Emergency Medical Services Week; state representative presents flag and praises local crews

The Lavaca County Commissioners Court adopted a proclamation designating May 17–23, 2026 as Emergency Medical Services Week and publicly honored local EMS personnel.
County Judge Keith Mud read the proclamation recognizing the role of EMTs, paramedics and other first responders in out‑of‑hospital care. Michael Fur, the county's EMS director, and many EMS staff attended the ceremony.
State Representative AJ Ladderback addressed the court, presented a commemorative flag from the Texas House of Representatives and praised the county's EMS crews for keeping rural residents safe. Ladderback thanked local EMS leaders and referenced recent state-level support, saying that funding had been secured to help counties obtain vehicles; he stated an amount of $350,000 in that discussion.
"When the governor saw the change, that made a difference," Ladderback said, praising local leadership and state support.
Precinct 4 moved to approve the proclamation, Precinct 1 seconded, and the court approved the proclamation by voice vote.
The court also took photos and thanked EMS personnel. No additional funding decisions were made on the floor during the ceremony; the presentation was a formal recognition and not a procurement action.
