AAC approves two‑meeting trial at supervisor’s office, sets earlier start time

The Agricultural Advisory Committee approved a two‑meeting trial to hold AAC meetings at the county supervisor’s office and set a 6:15 p.m. start time for the trial sessions. The motion was proposed and then amended by Crystal Shay and carried by voice/vote May 11.

Why it matters: Members and staff said the trial location would provide a more reliable hybrid meeting setup — dependable audio and a configuration that makes it easier for the chair to see in‑person attendees and remote participants — and would avoid the 8:15 p.m. hard stop associated with the committee’s current room. Several members said the travel burden is a drawback for some members, but most agreed a trial would allow staff to test logistics before any permanent change.

Robbie Miller, who spoke for staff about room options, said the old train depot lacked ADA-compliant access and would not work; committee members then discussed Ray Mueller’s county-leased office as an alternative. Sophie Ner, assistant director of planning and building, emphasized the need for "a reliable meeting setup where the internet is reliable where all the equipment can be available every time we meet without a lot of additional staff." The committee amended an initial motion to trial the supervisor office for two meetings only, and then amended or supplemented that motion to set a start time of 6:15 p.m. for the trial. The chair called a voice/raise vote; after counting raised hands and confirming assent the chair announced the motion carried and the committee will try the alternative location for two meetings and revisit the decision afterward.

What’s next: Staff will confirm logistics — equipment, ADA access, and any insurance or setup needs — for the May/June trial meetings and will report back to the committee with a recommended path forward.
