Palm Beach school board spotlights student awards and district partnerships during May meeting

The School Board of Palm Beach County opened its May meeting with a series of recognitions honoring student achievement and community partnerships.
Officials recognized winners of the Insight Through Education kindness social-media contest, Palm Beach County Academic Games top performers across elementary, middle and high school divisions, recipients of staff-association scholarships and students awarded Palm Beach Future Educators scholarships. Many students were called forward and applauded as board members and district leaders praised their work.
The Education Foundation’s chief engagement officer, Theresa West, reported that the foundation raised more than $527,000 at a recent golf tournament and announced plans to pack 36,122 backpacks for students in 55 Title I schools this summer, requesting volunteers and corporate sponsors to support the distribution effort.
Why it matters: The recognitions underscore district efforts to celebrate academic achievement, grow ‘grow-your-own’ teaching pathways and sustain community partnerships that provide classroom supports and scholarships. Foundation fundraising was presented as essential to classroom grants and teacher support programs such as instrument refurbishments funded with ESSR dollars.
