City manager highlights Lunar New Year turnout, sewer SCADA upgrades and upcoming meetings

At the Feb. 17 meeting City Manager Jesse Bond briefed the council on upcoming meetings and community items. Bond noted the Mercer Island Lunar New Year event on Feb. 8, organized with the Mercer Island Chinese Association, drew an estimated close to 1,000 attendees. He also updated council on the sewer SCADA modernization project, explaining pump station 11 panels passed testing and installation is expected to wrap in April, which staff said improved real‑time monitoring during recent heavy rains.
Bond reminded the public comment period on the six‑year Transportation Improvement Plan is open through April 21 and noted recruitments are open for vacancies on the Arts Council, Open Space Trust and Utility Board (application window extended to March 6). He recognized marine-patrol officers and King County Sheriff’s Office partners for a recent on-ice rescue.
The council approved routine agenda and consent items and recessed briefly for an executive session addressing pending litigation.
