Sunnyvale Heritage and Preservation Commission cancels May 6 meeting over lack of quorum

The Sunnyvale Heritage and Preservation Commission canceled its May 6, 2026 meeting at 7:13 p.m. after staff confirmed that several commissioners were absent and the panel did not have a quorum. The commission announced the meeting will be continued on June 3, 2026.

Vice Chair Chararma, who presided in the absence of Chair Garrett, opened the meeting and said the commission would take a 10-minute recess while waiting for members to arrive. The presiding officer reviewed meeting rules and said the commission is a limited public forum, which allows it to regulate the time, place and manner of speech and to enforce time limits for public comment. "The city does not tolerate disruptive behavior in our meetings," the presiding officer said.

At roll call, Vice Chair Chararma and Commissioner McManis were recorded as present. Staff reported that Commissioners Serare Raj Kumar and Chair Garrett had notified the commission of planned absences; Commissioners Roal and Johnson were also absent. With those absences the commission lacked the minimum number of members needed to conduct business.

Because a quorum was not present, the commission canceled the meeting and adjourned at 7:13 p.m.; staff told attendees the agenda would be carried forward to the June 3, 2026 meeting. The meeting record indicates no public hearings, votes, or substantive agenda items were considered before the adjournment.

Members of the public seeking additional information or wishing to submit comments for the rescheduled meeting were directed to the commission agenda and the city's website for guidelines and submission procedures.
