Town pauses annual 'Get Ready' event, plans 2027 evacuation drill and launches short preparedness videos; seeks medical volunteers

At the April 21 meeting Lori told the Belvadier–Tiburon Emergency Preparedness Council the traditional Get Ready to Go event will not be held in its usual format this year. "We are going to skip doing it this year... start planning now for something 18 months from now," she said, explaining staff want time to build a larger evacuation drill and exercise for 2027.
Instead of the full Get Ready program, Lori said the town will run smaller education outreach at a Friday-night Main Street event this year and work with the county Office of Emergency Management to design a larger evacuation drill. Council members welcomed the change but urged careful public messaging about evacuation routes and encouraged wider sign-up for Alert Marin.
Members discussed Alert Marin signup rates during the meeting; one speaker cited a recent figure of about 41% on the peninsula, while another referenced DC3 data at roughly 35%. Council members said those rates are too low and encouraged using town newsletters and Tiburon Talk to boost enrollment.
Jason described a planned series of short public‑service preparedness videos produced with the library: "We're going to start making some public service announcement videos... 30 seconds or less" covering topics such as building a go bag, turning off gas and shelter‑in‑place steps. The library will post the videos on its site and the town will share them via social media and newsletters. About a dozen short topics are planned and the first filming was scheduled for the coming Monday; the full-length Get Ready class remains scheduled for May 20 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the library.
Jane Cooper outlined plans to reconstitute a medical volunteer team of clinicians to assist in a local emergency. She said a roster compiled about 15 years ago is out of date and the goal is to assemble roughly 10–20 physicians, nurses and medical assistants who live on the peninsula and could staff a response site; equipment for such a site is stored at Delmare School.
No formal votes on policy items occurred. The chair later entertained a motion to adjourn; the meeting was closed and the council noted the next meeting date as July 21.
