John Rohlfs, building superintendent, told commissioners the five new AEDs would cost $7,625 and that the county expects a buyback credit of about $400 for each unit returned. He said one of the existing devices is no longer supported and batteries for older models require replacement every two years, prompting the upgrade.
During the consent agenda discussion the chair also noted Deputy Hogan is retiring and will be given his Glock as a gift; deputies plan to pool funds to replace that county weapon so there is no county expense. The board approved the AED purchase and later voted to surplus the identified older AEDs to process the buyback credits.
The approvals were routine votes taken during the consent and regular business items; commissioners emphasized the purchases were planned and budgeted and that surplussing will allow the county to recover part of the replacement cost.
