American Legion awards $3,774 to Harrison High and grants to local youth teams

An American Legion Charities representative told the Harrison City Council April 21 that the Legion awarded several local grants: $3,773.93 to fund six stand mixers for Harrison High School’s home economics class (requested by Allison Fulheart), $1,000 to the girls golf program, and $2,500 to help the community wrestling team begin fundraising for travel expenses to the Zincan Classic in California.
Allison Fulheart, the teacher who requested the mixers, thanked the Legion and described the need: classroom equipment is outdated and the new mixers will allow more lab work for roughly 350 students across a school year. The Legion representative said the board approved the full request for mixers and also distributed smaller checks to the athletics programs noted above.
Randy Leopard, owner of Peace of Mind Home Improvement, was recognized separately as the Greater Harrison Chamber of Commerce member of the month and spoke briefly about his business. Councilors encouraged community donations to supplement the wrestling team’s fundraising.
These were presentations on the consent/presentation portion of the agenda; no council votes were required to accept the Legion’s donations.
