At its May 6 meeting the Peabody Conservation Commission moved through a slate of compliance and enforcement matters, continuing several investigations and withdrawing an enforcement order where staff found satisfactory site stabilization.
LEC consultant Nicole Ferrara reported that recent unauthorized fill at 26 Tras Road was removed and the area stabilized with erosion‑control matting and seed. During excavation she said crews encountered an older, historic layer of fill beneath the recent material; LEC compared historical aerial imagery and recommended a survey and additional documentation before the commission takes final action. The commission continued the matter to the June meeting for the survey and supporting evidence.
At 33 Pine Street (Haven Circle Cooperative) co‑op representative Sue Mcgherk said the group removed temporary fill and reseeded the area; commissioners inspected photos and recent site conditions and voted unanimously to withdraw the enforcement order.
A long‑running enforcement matter involving multiple years of tree removal and wood‑chip deposition at Salem Country Club remains active; attorney Barry Fogle and club representatives said restoration plantings and sapling regrowth are advancing. The commission scheduled a site visit for June 22 at 8:30 a.m. (meet at the maintenance garage) and continued the enforcement matter until the Sept. 9 meeting so members can review post‑visit reporting. Attorney Fogle said the club had planted required replacement trees and will provide documentation.
Other administrative actions included continuing enforcement for 31 Pier Street and ratifying several minor permits and one tree permit at 60 Pine Street; staff encouraged applicants to submit full after‑the‑fact filings where required.
