Utah County says about 80% of operations funding goes to public safety; jail capacity near 2,000 beds

“Eighty percent of all our...budget and operation goes directly to public safety,” Ner said, describing the county’s emphasis on policing, corrections and behavioral-health oversight. He told host Kenneth Wilson that the county runs the jail and oversees the board responsible for behavioral-health facilities, which receive substantial state funding alongside county support.
Ner estimated the county’s jail holds roughly 2,000 beds and said expansion may be needed as the county urbanizes and population pressures rise. He also referenced public attention to the facility, noting that the jail was featured by a television series that covered incarceration in the county.
