Lakeville recognizes 13 firefighters as permanent after probationary year

Fire Chief Mike Meyer introduced and administered the oath to 13 firefighters at the April 6 Lakeville City Council meeting, recognizing their transition from probationary to permanent status.
Meyer said the group completed a four‑week Basic Life Support academy through a four‑city joint program and additional specialized training, including fire inspector and water rescue certifications. "This group has successfully navigated the first year of probation," he told the council and families assembled. He said several members pursued fire instructor and officer certifications and child passenger safety technician training.
Meyer credited the new hires with helping the department move to a hybrid staffing model that "has allowed us to consistently staff two engines," which he said has improved operational readiness. Families were invited to pin badges during the brief ceremony.
The council applauded the firefighters and welcomed them to full city service. There was no formal vote tied to the recognition; the council proceeded to other agenda items.
