The Sandusky City Commission on May 11 approved its consent agenda and adopted a series of ordinances under suspension of rules to move several municipal purchases and projects forward.
Consent-agenda items the commission adopted included replacement pages to the codified ordinances, a change order and final for the 2025 kitchen remodel at Fire Station 1, execution of a purchase-and-sale contract for property on Carr Street, and the Fiscal Year 2026 one-year Community Development Block Grant action plan. The chair called for the roll and the commission approved the consent agenda without objection.
On the regular agenda commissioners approved a resolution declaring the necessity to proceed with the Big Island Water Works primary intake cleaning and inspection project and directed the city manager to advertise for bids. The commission also authorized the city manager to enter into a contract with JMJ Incorporated (doing business as Hula Construction) of Castello, Ohio, for the 2026 water service line replacement No. 1 project.
Other equipment purchases adopted included the purchase of a 2028 Altec LR856 bucket truck via the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program for the forestry division, authorization to purchase a replacement backhoe/loader and hammer from Murphy Tractor, and authorization to purchase an Avant wheel loader for the greenhouse division through cooperative purchasing; the ordinances declared the replaced equipment unnecessary and allowed immediate effect under the city charter.
The commission also approved an ordinance authorizing the city manager to purchase four Ford E-350 light transit vehicles for Sandusky Transit through the Ohio Department of Transportation cooperative purchasing program. Transportation Director Mr. Stacy said federal OTP2 funds were awarded to cover up to 80% of the purchase. He said the county has agreed to help with the local match and has committed to contribute up to about $98,000; those county funds had not been received at the time of the meeting and will be presented as a donation when they arrive.
City Manager remarks and staff reports followed the votes, including donation acceptances for Parks & Rec and an update that the Cedar Point Drive–Cleveland Road roundabout opened May 7. The commission then opened public input and received no comments.
