The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution opposing efforts in the General Assembly to change county property tax authority, using a model template circulated by the county association.
County staff presented the template resolution and explained it opposes measures that would allow the General Assembly to alter county tax rates and local taxing authority. Commissioners who spoke in favor said local control keeps decisions closest to residents, and the board moved, seconded and adopted the resolution as presented.
The resolution will be distributed per standard practice to the county association and state contacts, and recorded in the meeting minutes.
