LAREDO ISD kicks off Reader Across America with city, county officials and visiting author

A Laredo ISD staff member said the district invited Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino, Webb County Judge Donald Tijerina, Senator Judith Zaffirini and Richard Raymond to the kickoff and that the guests participated in reading a proclamation marking the week. The staff member recognized students and teachers who won first place in the district’s Reading Fair projects, noting there were co-champions and grand champions.
The staff member reported that Kat Kronenberg, an author from Austin and writer of the Liv series, read her book Dream Big and delivered an encouraging message to students. "If you believe in yourself and you dream big, anything is possible in life," the staff member said Kronenberg told students. The speaker added that Kronenberg donated one book to each student; the total number of books donated was not specified in the event remarks.
The Laredo Public Library provided a puppet show during the program that engaged students with songs and a reading from a Pete the Cat book. The staff member closed the remarks by reiterating that LAREDO ISD is committed to promoting literacy throughout the district.
