North Olmsted to buy four LifePak defibrillators and extend Stryker maintenance contract

The council approved two related public safety measures May 20: the purchase of four LifePak 35 monitor/defibrillators for $180,772.10 and a one-year maintenance and service contract with Stryker Medical for $24,865.60.
Councilman Shymske, reporting on the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee, said the devices are state-of-the-art, are included in the budget, and carry a one-year warranty; the committee recommended moving the purchase forward. During floor action on the maintenance contract, Shymske noted the prior maintenance agreement expired March 31, 2025. Councilman Limpert commented that there is effectively no alternative vendor to Stryker for this equipment.
Both measures were acted on under the emergency exception and adopted by roll call, each on a 6-0 vote. The purchase will include credits for the old units as described in the committee report; the committee reported a typical replacement lifecycle of roughly five years for the devices.
The Fire Department and Finance staff will execute the maintenance contract and process the equipment purchase according to city procurement procedures.
