Council permits alcohol sales at Barton Bradley Park for Saturday concert series

Council voted unanimously on May 20 to amend the city code to permit the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages at the Saturday in the Park concert series when held at Barton Bradley Park. The council moved to suspend the three-reading rule and adopted Ordinance 2025-46 the same night, 6-0.
Councilwoman Hemann, who presented the Recreation Committee’s recommendation, summarized information relayed to the committee by the Recreation Director. Hemann said the committee heard that the State of Ohio requires submission of a permit map that defines where alcohol may be sold and consumed — for example in roped-off areas and outside certain distances from residences — and that those requirements will be followed when the city requests a permit for Barton Bradley Park.
Hemann said the August 9 concert will be moved from North Olmsted Park to Barton Bradley Park because of construction at North Olmsted Park and that the ordinance adds Barton Bradley Park as an approved location under Chapter 957.01 for specific events. The council approved suspending the three-reading rule to meet state permitting timelines and adopted the ordinance in a single evening.
The ordinance will enable the Recreation Department to apply for the state liquor permit for the event; the City must submit the required map and meet state setback and enclosure requirements to obtain authorization.
