School committee approves routine business: policies, contracts, meal pricing and contract extensions

Policy updates: The committee approved two district policy changes—EHA (district security/technology) and EHB (data and records retention)—after brief explanations from administration. These are MASC‑aligned policies the district needed to adopt.
Budget journal entries and personnel housekeeping: The business office presented about seven pages of journal entries to clean up FY26 coding and to consolidate small remaining lines so end‑of‑year purchases can be completed cleanly; the committee approved the entries. Personnel items on file (one appointment, one retirement and three resignations) were accepted as presented.
Transportation contract: The committee voted to execute a two‑year extension with the district’s transportation vendor, Telstone, with an agreed increase (4% in 2026, 5% in 2027) built into the extension. The business manager advised that extending the contract is prudent given rising market bids and rates elsewhere.
Food service adult meal pricing: Following a state administrative review noting adult meal prices did not fully cover costs when federal food commodities are used, the committee approved raising adult lunch to $6 and adult breakfast to $4; student meals will remain free. Administration said the food service fund—not the general fund—will cover kitchen equipment needs if the Millville kitchen requires new appliances.
Legal counsel and other votes: The committee reappointed its legal counsel (Long Petro Gonzalez LLP) and reorganized subcommittee membership for finance, capital planning, negotiations, policy, superintendent evaluation and sick bank.
Facilities and athletics: Facilities reported recent maintenance (flooring, HVAC, generator regulator, custodial work) and a resolved sewer pump alarm. The athletic director summarized spring results, listed summer conditioning and youth camps, and previewed fall schedules and tryout plans. The committee approved several facilities requests for summer programming contingent on final room/allocation confirmation.
What’s next: Administrators will continue to update the committee on fiscal year closeout journal entries, transportation rates, summer facilities scheduling, and any MSBA or pilot testing updates tied to the Millville agenda item.
