School committee re-certifies FY26 budget; $150,000 adjustment lowers town assessments

Committee members adopted the gross operating budget and applied a series of reimbursements and offsets that the administration said would lower member-town assessments: the $150,000 adjustment lowers Blackstone’s overall share from approximately 3.9% to about 3.0% and reduces Millville’s share from roughly 2.6% to about 1.6%, according to the superintendent’s presentation.
Finance director Joe Spagna walked the committee through the certification worksheet and described where the $150,000 was identified. The committee then approved motions to adopt the gross operating budget, apply reimbursements, and set the town assessments. All motions were adopted by voice vote and recorded as unanimous in the meeting narrative.
The committee also adopted capital and interest assessments: Blackstone was assessed approximately $339,983.53 (projects such as JFK boilers, roofs, and the BMR feasibility study) and Milville $163,983.99 (boiler, roof, feasibility study). Committee members noted the distribution of motions mirrored town representation (Millville motions made by Millville representatives and Blackstone motions by Blackstone representatives).
Committee members asked for continued attention to budget growth rates and free cash usage; some members expressed concern for taxpayers in Millville and emphasized the need to align budget increases with community expectations. The committee took no additional changes to the certified budget during the meeting.
