Food-truck rewrite put on hold; resident urges visible owner authorization

During public comment, resident Jeff Sturgeon said property-owner permission should be visibly posted at food-truck locations so enforcement officers can verify authorization on site. Sturgeon said he did not see a requirement for visible permission in the online materials and urged the council to require it.
Law Director Gareau responded that the requirement for owner authorization is included in the ordinance's permitting process. "It does state in there that you need to demonstrate that you have authorization from the owner," Gareau said, adding that visibility requirements could be addressed in application rules or permit conditions.
Why it matters: the rewrite is intended to modernize regulations for mobile food vendors, including permitting, health and fire certifications, and limits on how long a mobile food vehicle may be on a street. The council's holding of the ordinance signals staff and council will refine the substitute language before further consideration.
