Girls on the Run praises Henrico partnership, urges expansion

Ally Reynolds, with Girls on the Run Greater Richmond, told the Henrico County School Board that the nonprofit’s program supports students’ social and emotional development and thanked the district for its partnership.
"We are deeply grateful for your partnership in making this possible for students across our region," Reynolds said, describing Girls on the Run as a 10-week, research-based program for third- through eighth-graders that combines movement, conversation and mentorship.
Reynolds provided local participation figures, saying the program served 350 girls across 24 Henrico schools this year with the help of 94 volunteer coaches. She also cited survey results presented to the board: "99% of our Goater Girls reported that they felt their coaches cared about them, and 95 percent of participants reported increased confidence after completing the program," Reynolds said.
The presentation framed the program as a complement to classroom work on social-emotional skills and urged the board to consider ways to expand reach so "every girl has the chance to grow in confidence, connection, and resilience," Reynolds said.
The board did not take action on the presentation; the public forum is for comment only and staff will follow up with speakers who requested additional information.
