Pitkin County advances first readings for conservation and Nordic trail easements on West Buttermilk Road

County planning staff presented two ordinances (first reading) tied to a conditional growth-management approval for 1333 West Buttermilk Road. Staff said the Leak family dedicated a conservation easement that encumbers a 26.14-acre aspen stand and also executed a perpetual Nordic trail easement to allow construction of a Nordic platform through the aspen stand.
Mike Kramer, representing Van Mountain Properties LLC (Brian and Jessica Leak), described the alignment, wetlands constraints, and that the buildable site and driveway use an existing platted alignment; staff said the Nordic easement period is defined as the Nordic season (November 1–April 15) and that the property owners also contributed $16,000 toward trail construction. Aspen Nordic and contractor Mike Unkifer will help locate and construct the platform.
The board advanced both ordinances to a second reading and public hearing scheduled for April 22.
