Corporal Jana Siege of the Sierra Vista Police Department and Sheriff Mark Daniels used KWCD First Watch to urge Cochise County residents to donate to a countywide food-drive challenge among local law-enforcement agencies.
Corporal Siege said the department will host an old police truck in front of the Sierra Vista Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for canned goods and nonperishables. The truck was donated by the Santor family, she said, and Bowser the tortoise will be on site to greet donors. "We're going to have the first ever Sierra Vista police truck out in front of the police station... hoping to fill the bed with all those canned goods," she said.
Siege emphasized that donations collected in each community will stay in that community — Bisbee, Douglas, Willcox, Benson and Tombstone — so residents can be confident gifts directly help their neighbors. "The food pantries are extremely low right now," she said, stressing rural food insecurity.
Daniels and the hosts noted the challenge is friendly competition among agencies and encouraged donations at any local participating location, including the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and other municipal departments. The segment closed by reminding listeners today is the last day of the law-enforcement challenge and that collected food will remain local.
No formal policy changes were announced; this was an event promotion and logistics briefing. Specific donation tallies and final results were "not specified" on-air.
