BENTON CITY — The Benton City Council discussed adding public EV charging stations on April 7 as part of a longer downtown revitalization strategy. Councilmembers suggested one or two chargers downtown or at a park and noted available grants could help fund the project.
Members urged caution when selecting vendors, warning some providers include complex financing or credit arrangements. One council member suggested Tesla-compatible chargers to ensure broad vehicle support and to list the city on public charging maps. Technical considerations discussed included the difference between level-2 chargers (suitable for overnight charging) and level-3 fast chargers (which require higher power capacity and larger transformers); council members said power availability and the cost of upgrades will influence siting.
Council did not adopt a procurement plan at the meeting but encouraged staff to explore grants and to evaluate sites and vendor options.
