Mineola trustees approve permits, union contract and equipment purchases

The Mineola Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved a suite of routine permits, a library collective bargaining agreement and several equipment purchases and service contracts funded from current budgets or reserve balances.
The board approved requests to use the Village Hall Community Center gymnasium and auditorium by Boy Scout Troop 45 (May 5) and Birwood Court Owners, Inc. (June 2), and granted the Mineola Chamber of Commerce permission to hold the Mineola Street Fair on Oct. 4, 2026 (rain date Oct. 11). The board also approved the Mineola Union Free School District’s request to use the John S. DeAnzo Community Pool for a special-education summer program.
Trustees approved a collective bargaining agreement between the Mineola Memorial Library and the United Public Service Employees Union; the motion authorizes the mayor to execute the agreement on the village’s behalf.
On capital and operating purchases, the board authorized: purchase of 18 dual-space and five single-space Mackie Beacon solar parking meters from Mackie Meters Inc. under Omnia contract #158972 for $18,675; acquisition of 112 water meters from Rio Supply, Inc. for $41,248 charged to the 2025–26 water fund; and procurement of GIS equipment from New York Precision Equipment for $23,528 to digitize utility maps. Officials said the GIS work will help locate shut-offs, hydrants and manholes more accurately and speed response to water-main breaks.
Separately, the board authorized DMB Engineering & Architects to provide design services for a sanitary sewer improvements project ($35,000) and approved $1,500 for the superintendent of public works to attend the AWA New York Section water conference.
All motions carried by voice vote during the meeting. Funding for the purchases was identified as coming from the applicable 2025–26 fund budgets or the unreserved fund balances where noted.
