FosterHub to open Logan center offering apartments and life‑skills support for youth leaving foster care

Michelle Maize, chief executive officer of FosterHub, said the nonprofit helps youth who are leaving state custody find housing, learn basic household and employment skills and gain practical supports such as driving practice and rides to work.
FosterHub, founded in 2022, works with job and family services, CASA and foster parents to identify young people approaching emancipation and to place them in apartments. "We're going to be honest with you no matter what and we're going to tell you when you're going the wrong way and we'll help you get right back on track," Maize said, describing the organization's mentoring approach.
Maize said FosterHub assists with apartment searches, attends lease signings, furnishes units from community donations and provides weekly in‑person support teaching chores, laundry and budgeting. The organization also addresses transportation barriers: Maize said many youth need 50 hours of drive time to qualify for in‑person driver's education, so FosterHub provides rides and a vehicle for practice.
The nonprofit relies on a network of landlords across Lancaster, Nelsonville, Logan and Athens that Maize developed over several years. "The landlord knows that we're going to be in there every week," she said, adding that regular involvement helps landlords feel more comfortable renting to 18‑year‑old tenants.
Maize said FosterHub has four employees, is hiring and uses volunteers and donations to furnish apartments and run programs. The group's website, fosterhub.com, lists donation needs and volunteer opportunities.
The organization purchased a roughly 20,000‑square‑foot building and plans a center that will include 10 efficiency apartments, a computer training room, life‑skills training kitchen, laundry facilities, a barber shop, group therapy space and offices. Maize said the grand opening is scheduled for June 19 in downtown Logan, Ohio, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; tickets are free and the event will include facility tours and musical performances.
Maize said FosterHub serves youth from seven counties and supports clients from ages 18 to 23 with no fixed program end date. She cited a recent success story: one of the nonprofit's earliest participants completed state certification to work as a firefighter.
