Residents press Morristown council for speed humps and enforcement ahead of Staples redevelopment

Scott Wilson (8 Jardine Road) said the neighborhood has negligible sidewalks and narrow streets where families with small children are now afraid to walk. "We have speeders who will go through our neighborhood," he said, and urged the council to help secure traffic calming before construction increases through-traffic.
Mayor Timothy P. Dy and other council members said the administration will re-run a resident survey on Jardine and adjoining streets, conduct an engineering speed count and assess criteria for speed humps. The mayor described prior resident surveys that had previously rejected speed humps but said "we'll do the study, we'll do the survey... and then we'll get back to the results." Police leaders in the room heard the complaint and officials said targeted enforcement is possible if resources allow.
Other residents reported crashes, worries about children during summer break and requests that the police do focused enforcement in the near term.
What's next: Administration will circulate a new survey to affected residents and run a speed count; any installation of speed humps will follow the town's standard petition and engineering criteria process.
