Riverview junior-senior high programs earn local wins, national spotlight ahead

Riverview School District administrators told the education and student life committee on April 8 that a busy spring includes state- and national‑level competitions and a pending national feature of the district's junior high program.
Mr. Hewitt summarized extracurricular successes: five students will attend the Western Pennsylvania Poetry Slam on April 9, the Box IQ team competes in state finals on April 10, 26 students will attend the Western Pennsylvania English Festival on May 21, and 18 students qualified for the National History Day finals at the University of Scranton on May 25–26. He also said the junior high programming is being spotlighted by the American Association of School Administrators in an upcoming article.
Clubs and student groups were active across the district: the art club prepared work for a free little art gallery; the French Club supported an Easter Egg Hunt and the GSA raised more than $600 for a child-care activity at that event; the Inclusive Leaders Group has secured $1,200 in sponsorships for an April 16 inclusion festival benefiting the Inclusive Bocce Special Olympics team.
Administrators noted a number of spring events — a tubing trip, junior high town hall and spirit days — and said final club activities, yearbook pages and sales will wrap up by April 30. The district emphasized student engagement and inclusion as priorities during the busy April–May calendar.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about the PowerSchool transition and the timeline for report cards during the update; administrators confirmed competitions and festivals remain on schedule.
