Cowlitz County commissioners set June 2 budget amendment hearing, approve consent agenda including public-works bids

The Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners set a public hearing on a proposed 2026 budget amendment for June 2 at 9:30 a.m. and approved a consent agenda covering bids, contracts and vouchers.

Chair (speaker 1) told the board the June 2 workshop-format hearing will address budget reductions and other changes to the 2026 budget. The chair also summarized two annual public-works calls for bids scheduled for June 8: one for transportation of rock materials to support road upgrades around the county landfill and Headquarters Road, and another for asphalt materials used to repair potholes and prep roads for overlays.

The consent agenda included bid awards to Gardner Rock, Stored All and Sons, Knife River and LROC Industries for road surface materials for the period of May 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027; an interlocal agreement with Southwest Washington Workforce (effective May 1, 2026–June 30, 2029); and a resolution rescinding resolution number 96-203 to close a petty cash purchasing account that has moved to a different department. The chair reported vouchers totaling $3,233,064.30 presented for payment.

Commissioner (speaker 3) moved approval of the consent agenda; the chair called the vote and announced the motion carried.

The board noted there were no online public comments and confirmed the removal of agenda item 8 from this meeting’s docket. The chair closed with calendar notes: the Forest Service will appear June 2 at 10 a.m., the Department of Ecology on May 23 and the Board of Health on May 30; several meetings were canceled in mid- to late May for observances and scheduling.

The commissioners took no additional formal action on the budget amendment at the session beyond scheduling the June 2 public hearing.
