The Milton School District Board of Education on May 11 approved the district's 2026–27 teacher contracts and a package of support-staff compensation changes that administrators said will narrow market gaps for critical positions.
Board members ratified a previously negotiated collective bargaining agreement with the Milton Education Association that increases the base teacher wage by 2.63 percent and includes a $469 market adjustment, bringing the new base wage to $52,400. "When including the value of all of this supplemental pay, the increase of the overall group costing is approximately a 4.02% increase," the HR presenter told the board during the meeting.
Administrators also proposed and the board approved adjustments for support staff and a newly created "operations support services" specialist category to address wage disparities in roles that coordinate district-wide functions, including accounting, payroll and HR administration. The proposal sets a proposed starting wage for that specialist group at $26.90 per hour, according to the compensation matrix shown to the board.
The plan also shifts two school nurses back onto the district payroll after several years of contracting those positions, and would move certain hourly technical and administrative assistants into the new specialist grouping. "This recommendation is intended to address significant market gaps," an administrator said while presenting the matrices.
Board members discussed how the proposed matrices translate to individual steps and years of service; administrators said individual percentage increases will vary by position and experience. A motion to approve the support-staff compensation changes carried by voice vote with one abstention noted.
Both the teacher-contract motion and the support-staff compensation motion were passed by voice vote; the minutes record the motions as carried but do not provide a roll-call tally. The board also approved routine business during the meeting, including vouchers, staffing reports and gifts and donations.
Next steps noted by staff include distributing signed teacher contracts and implementing the updated pay matrices; administrators said they will return any additional staffing-specific documents or resignations to the board at future meetings.
