Kennedale ISD board certifies May 2 trustee election; Owens and Cruz Perez declared winners

The Kennedale Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 12 formally canvassed and accepted certified results from the May 2 trustee election, declaring Daryl L. Owens the winner for Place 6 and Maria A. Cruz Perez the winner for Place 7.

The clerk read the certification, stating: "It is therefore found and declared and so ordered by the board of trustees of Kennedale Independent School District that the above school trustee election was duly called, that notice of set election was duly posted, and that set election was held in accordance with law," and that Owens and Cruz Perez were elected "subject to taking their oath." The board noted the canvass was based on results certified by the Tarrant County Election Committee.

The clerk reported the certified vote totals as: Daryl L. Owens — 1,166 votes for Place 6; Maria A. Cruz Perez — 675 votes for Place 7; and Felicia Moody — 645 votes for Place 7, for a combined total of 2,486 votes among the three candidates.

Dr. Maria Douglas moved to accept the election results "as presented," and Miss Debbie Via Gomez seconded the motion. The trustees present approved the motion by voice vote; the motion passed unanimously. The transcript records that trustees Daryl Owens and Felicia Moody were absent from the meeting. The results are effective pending the winners taking their oaths of office.

Board procedures at the start of the meeting included a roll call and a statement that the meeting notice had been posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act (Texas Government Code Chapter 551). No public comments on agenda items were recorded during the meeting.
