District presenters described a Perpich CAP (Comprehensive Arts Planning) process that produced three strategic directions: refine a K–12 scope and sequence, increase targeted professional learning (particularly for elementary generalist teachers), and deepen community connections. The proposed Art of Education resource provides ready‑to‑use lessons, vertical alignment and art‑specific professional development for elementary teachers who do not specialize in visual arts.
Rick Jensen, a high‑school art teacher who helped pilot the program, said pilots showed stronger alignment with Minnesota arts standards, reduced teacher planning time and more consistent K–5 skill progression. The package includes teacher tools and professional learning supports but is a teacher-facing platform rather than a student textbook purchase.
A motion to adopt the recommendation passed by voice vote. Administration will move to procurement, pilot expansion and rollout in coordination with Perpich, with follow-up reports to the board on costs and professional‑learning schedules.
