Mayor Steve Patterson read a proclamation recognizing PEO Athens Chapter G Day and noted the organization's long history of supporting women's higher education and scholarship programs.
"I, Steve Patterson, the mayor of the great city of Athens, Ohio, do hereby proclaim March 13 of 2026 as PEO Athens Chapter G Day throughout Athens and recognize the contributions and importance of the organization's support of young women and of our community," Patterson said as he read the proclamation.
The proclamation said PEO has helped more than 129,000 young women and provided approximately $462 million in assistance through scholarships, awards, loans and grants. The mayor noted PEO Athens Chapter G was chartered on May 13, 1926, and will mark 100 years of service to the Athens community on May 13, 2026.
The proclamation recognizes the chapter's contributions and sets aside a day to honor its service to the community.
