Mayor Steve Patterson announced the city's pool will open on May 23 and detailed related swim-test and membership information ahead of the season.
"The pool opening day is going to be the 23rd," Patterson said, and noted a May 22 pre-season membership sale and swim test from 1 to 6 p.m. for individuals under 14; passing that swim test is required to use the lap lane and dive well.
The mayor also outlined youth sports timelines: youth baseball registration is open with a May 31 deadline; T-ball for ages five and six runs June 15 through Aug. 5; coach-pitch (ages 7–9) will run June 16 through Aug. 6; practices begin around June 15 and games extend into early August. City staff said paid soccer-official positions are available for evening weekday matches to support local youth leagues.
On childcare, Patterson said before- and after-school care registration opens May 11 and described program features and fees: before-school care 7:30–8:45 a.m. at $100/month and after-school care 3:30–5:30 p.m. at $200/month. He noted council is considering replacement of preschool playground equipment at the south side community center.
Officials encouraged families to register by posted deadlines and to contact city recreation staff for details.
