Athens to activate new parking-garage pay-before-you-return system Monday

The City of Athens plans to activate a new parking-garage system on Monday that requires motorists to take a ticket on entry and use pay stations to pay before returning to their vehicle, Mayor Steve Patterson said.
"We are going to go live with our new parking system in the parking garage where you take a ticket with you. We have pay stations, so pay before you return to your vehicle," Patterson said. He noted pay stations are located on the first floor by the elevator and on the upper level by the stairs. "The gate will also automatically open if the ticket has been prepaid."
City officials told viewers to expect some initial user difficulties as people adjust to the new process. The mayor described the system as intended to speed exit times and simplify enforcement and said staff will monitor the rollout for issues.
The city asked drivers to look for posted instructions in the garage and to use the pay stations to avoid delay when returning to their vehicles.
