Cinnaminson superintendent outlines preschool expansion and upcoming referendum outreach

Superintendent Mr. Capello told the board on May 12 that the district plans to open five new full‑day preschool classrooms to reduce a waiting list for three‑ and four‑year‑old students.

The expansion will add two classrooms at Westfield Friends School and a three‑classroom expansion at a Children of America location, Mr. Capello said, creating five new seats for the district’s free full‑day Pre‑K program. He described the partnerships as a way to expand capacity quickly and to provide families a full day of early learning at no cost.

Mr. Capello also updated the board on the district’s referendum communications and outreach. He said the district has transitioned into a communications phase, that the architect and civil engineer were presenting to the township planning board that night, and that district leaders will attend upcoming home‑and‑school association meetings, a project graduation event and the district’s booth at Cinnaminson Day to answer public questions.

The superintendent framed the expansion as part of the district’s third year of universal preschool and said the move aims to reduce waitlists and increase enrollment for three‑ and four‑year‑olds. He asked families to attend outreach events and noted several upcoming district concerts and activities that will also provide information about the referendum and preschool plans.

The board voted to approve routine agenda items and accepted the superintendent’s updates; no formal vote was required to proceed with outreach. The superintendent’s office will continue to coordinate with the planning board and community groups as the district prepares public materials and events.
