Chico Unified swears in two new trustees and elects board officers

"Students are at my very heart," Tisha Hayes said after taking the oath, identifying herself as a teacher since 1990 and thanking supporters including the California Teachers Association and her family. Gail Olen, also sworn in, thanked campaign volunteers and said she was "ready for this next adventure."
After the swearing‑in, the board held its annual organizational meeting to elect officers as required by Education Code. Rebecca Conin spoke to her interest in serving as president, citing her perspective as a parent and her professional background in pediatric nursing. Tom Lando introduced himself as a long‑serving trustee and described his experience in educational leadership.
Members nominated and voted for president, vice president and clerk in the order required by the board's process. The board also moved to appoint the superintendent as secretary of the board; that appointment passed on a voice vote.
The board closed the organizational business with unanimous procedural votes and then moved into agenda items and presentations.
