Mitchell County approves memorandum transferring four state-line bridges to Moore County; McIntire Bridge work ongoing

The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors voted April 7 to approve a memorandum of understanding that assigns ownership of four state-line bridges to Moore County.
County staff said the revised agreement makes Moore County 100% owner while Mitchell County will continue to handle maintenance and inspections as previously arranged until the transfer. The board approved the MOU by unanimous roll call and staff said Moore County will consider the document at its next meeting.
Separately, the county engineer updated the board on work at McIntire Bridge. Crews were scheduled to install bridge boards, pave shoulders, place guardrail, texture the surface and complete dirt work. The engineer cautioned that pavement curing could affect whether contractor days are chargeable, and noted the county will assess working days in accordance with contract rules.
Supervisor discussion referenced prior ownership splits and confirmed the MOU will supersede the earlier agreement. No dissenting votes were recorded on the MOU approval.
The board did not take additional formal direction on bridge funding; the MOU will be sent to Moore County for final action.
