Torrance Unified: midyear LCAP update highlights rising A-G completion, early-college expansion and AI pilot

District staff delivered a midyear update on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), telling the board that the district is implementing approved actions and is on pace to expend funds as budgeted.
A staff presenter summarized three items singled out for midyear attention: creation of an early-college dual-enrollment TOSA (a new position filled in the fall), expansion of early-college courses from North to Torrance High School next year, and an AI pilot involving a concentrated group of about 50 teachers (with more than 100 teachers indicating interest). "I am very happy to report that all actions in the LCAP are being implemented as approved and we are on pace to expend our monies as budgeted," a district presenter said.
The presentation cited several academic indicators the district identified as progress points: a districtwide A nd— through-G completion rate of roughly 66% (described as a historic high and approximately 5 percentage points higher than pre-pandemic levels), nearly 20% of last year's graduates completed a CTE pathway, and AP participation and pass rates continue to increase and are at all-time highs.
Staff also noted that Shery (Sherri/Sherry) High School had previously appeared on a state-targeted list for one subgroup but has improved enough to exit several improvement lists; the presentation said one subgroup (low-income students at that site) will still receive targeted supports. Staff outlined ongoing stakeholder consultations for the coming months and said the district expects modest changes for year two of the three-year plan.
Board members asked clarifying questions; staff said the district will continue to gather feedback from site councils, PTAs and labor groups and will bring draft changes to the board in June.
