Justu Lafayette, identified in remarks as the refinery—ommunity relations adviser, said, "On behalf of the Torrance Refining Company, I m very pleased to present a check in the amount of $660,000 as the presenting sponsor of this year's Southern California regional Invention Convention." Lafayette said the gift helps expand hands-on STEAM opportunities and noted industry—mployees apply STEAM principles in their workforce.
District staff said the contribution underwrites student participation in the Invention Convention and complements classroom instruction in engineering and design. The presentation also thanked a local college listed in the remarks as a host for the convention and noted that the district has a multi-year record of sending students to state- and national-level competitions.
The board accepted the presentation; no formal board action was required beyond the public recognition. The district said logistics for the funded events will be coordinated by the curriculum and career-education staff.
