Sugar Land authorizes $1.22 million design contract for Williams Trace reconstruction

The Sugar Land City Council approved a $1,220,448 professional services contract with Edminster, Henshaw, Russ & Associates (EHR, Inc.) to design the Williams Trace reconstruction from Oyster Creek to State Highway 6.
The project scope includes reconstruction of a four-lane divided roadway, widening the sidewalk to a 10-foot shared-use path, traffic-signal improvements and drainage upgrades. An existing interlocal agreement with Fort Bend County covers the design cost, and staff said the county will fund 100% of the professional design services. Construction is currently estimated at about $22 million, with Fort Bend County and the city each responsible for 50% of construction costs, according to staff presentation.
If approved, staff planned to issue a notice to proceed in March; design is expected to take about a year with construction targeted for July 2027. Council approved the contract unanimously (mover: Jacobson; second: Vonda Hart).
