District shifts math PSSA and sends communications as NFL draft brings visitors to city

"We got permission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to make that switch to accommodate what's happening in the city with between 500,000 and 700,000 visitors to our city," Dr. Walters said, explaining that the district moved the math PSSA administration to the first week of the draft because the math assessment lasts two days and the change was driven by safety, transportation concerns and the district's responsibility to students and staff who travel across neighborhoods.
Dr. Walters framed the decision as district-wide rather than neighborhood-specific and emphasized logistics and student safety as the rationale. The meeting recorded no formal vote; the board was informed of the communications strategy and the assessment scheduling change.
